Yup, you read that right, forget grad school. From now on, the focus of this blog will be the elevator in my
building.
Well, maybe not actually, but let's not spoil the ending.
So, last Wednesday, as I shared the broken elevator fiasco, I mentioned that I sent a pissed off email to the building manager and the CEO of the management company. While I honestly thought it would just fall into a black hole and die, it actually kicked off some action.
Somehow the email ended up getting forwarded to the board of the home owner's association of the building. And that, in turn, sparked off an email flurry that brought about a Zoom meeting on Friday. It was with building residents, the building management folks and even the elevator repair company.
I'll spare you the details, other than to say that it was more of the same apathetic bullshit that I bitched about in that previous post. The big takeaway from the meeting, however, was that the elevator parts had come in earlier that day, and the elevator should be fixed by Monday (which is tomorrow as I write this).
As for my back? I dunno. I mean, it's definitely better but it's absolutely not good. I've been resting it pretty good, and I've also found that while standing still tends to cause pain, walking is actually really soothing. I think it helps loosens things up, maybe. But I think the important point is that it is getting better. And, with that in mind, it does feel more like soreness than injury. So, the plan is to push forward and hope my back holds up fine.
Having to move everything twice, once into the moving truck and again into the storage pod, is going to suck. And I'm sure by the end I'll be swearing like a sailor and limping angrily... but if it's temporary, we'll be fine.
So who knows, maybe I'll be blogging about non-elevator shit again soon. But no promises.
It may be early August as I'm driving out of Seattle finally, but if it can really happen by the end of this week, I'll be happy to get going with this. Whatever it is that this is going to end up being. I'm ready to say goodbye to Seattle. I'm ready to end this chapter once and for all.
I'm ready to get in my car, and drive east... towards the sunrise.
